What: B21@SBC “b21 Panel - A forum discussion about the present and future of the SBC. Each panel member will briefly address a key issue in SBC life, and this will be immediately followed by Question/Answer time. Topics will include: the benefits of cooperation, the great things the SBC is doing, changes the SBC needs, how we involve younger leaders, how we can move forward, and others.

When: June 23rd 11am-1pm (during a break at this year’s Southern Baptist Convention in Louisville)

Where: Sojourn Community Church, 930 Mary St. Louisville, KY 40204 (about 5 minutes from where the convention will be held)

Who: We have invited several key leaders to form the panel. Those who have officially accepted the invitation so far are: Ed Stetzer from Lifeway, Daniel Akin from SEBTS, and Daniel Montgomery of Sojourn, and there are more names to come. Baptist 21 guys will be moderating the event.

Why: Many in the SBC see a great need for a directional change, but are also very excited about the things that the SBC does well. This event will celebrate what we are doing well and discuss possible areas of change.

About this Promo video from Ed Stetzer: Dr. Stetzer briefly touches on some of the subjects that will be covered at the panel forum.

Specifically he addresses:
1.    why the Southern Baptist Convention is worth being a part of?
2.    Why he is a Southern Baptist?
3.    If he were King of the SBC for a day, what would he change?
4.    Why should one take time to come to the b21 Panel?

We certainly pray that you will make an effort to be a part of the b21 panel at this year’s convention. Registration info will be coming soon!

Did Wade Burleson or Michael Spencer get invites? Is there a way to attend the convention and not be a messenger? I don’t think any of the SBC churches I belong to have enough spots available to them that would allow me to be a messenger on there behalf (assuming they would let me to begin with). I really want to attend and meet people and see what’s going on, but am not sure how outside of being a messenger.

    Blake,

Anyone can attend the SBC. You just have to be a messenger to vote on business.

We’d love for you to attend and hang out.

Question: how do you belong to more than one SBC church?

I have an official membership at one church and a “watchcare” membership at the church near where I go to seminary. So I have an official membership where I don’t go to church and I’m treated as a full member of the church near my seminary. I’m not sure if I could technically or officially represent the church I attend while at seminary, but I see no reason why my home church would want me to represent them since I’m completely disconnected from there. So, I’m confused about how my being a messenger could possibly work.
